JASST was established in 1989 with the goal of "popularizing and advancing sensor technology" to develop cross-sectional sensor and actuator research and development in Japan.
It serves researchers and engineers from universities, research institutes, manufacturers, and users as a venue for connecting needs with seeds and exchanging information across different organizations.
The association conducts symposiums to discuss expected new technologies, seminars on the latest technical trends, research groups for mutual training, tutorial "techno-schools" for newcomers, and task forces contributing to the creation and nurturing of new industries. Every year, it holds the "Sensor/Actuator/Micro-Nano/Week" as a concurrent event to "Sensor Expo Japan," featuring general symposiums and exhibition corners.
In 2013, it became a General Incorporated Association, and in 2021, it established the SUCS Consortium to aim for the standardization of proprietary sensor connections.
